论文摘要翻译的步骤
步骤一:题名翻译
论文标题(title)是论文的总纲,是能反应论文最重要的特定内容的最恰当、最简明的词语的逻辑组合。
1. 题名常见句型
一般用名词性短语(词组式),不能用不定式或完整句式。
基本句型为:
Research of ...(对于XXX的研究);
Study on...(基于XXX的研究);
Design of...(关于XXX的设计);
Research and Application of...(XXX的研究与运用)
2. 基本要求为
准确
论文标题的英译必须准确到位,避免漏译;简洁:没有实际内容的汉语字词可不必译出(如:关于乔治斯坦纳阐释学四步骤的研究,可不将“关于”翻译出来,直接翻译成“Research of/ Study on...”即可。);
清楚
标题翻译中一般不用缩略词或化学公式,但可用共知的一些常用缩写,如:DNA/MTI/CAT等,以便读者了解,并不使二次检索时产生歧义。
格式:标题中所有实词的首字母大写,虚词等小写,五个字以上的虚词的首字母(如before, between等)大写。
步骤二:摘要主题翻译
1. 摘要: Abstract(第一行居中)
2. 语言结构:
语态:
一般为被动语态(The research is consisted with five parts...“本论文包括五个部分”。);
时态:
一般来说,目的用将来时(The purpose of the research is to...)
方法和结果用过去时(The research method was.../It was showed that...)
结论用一般现在时(The research shows that...)。
步骤三:关键词Key words
(“Key”的首字母大写,其余全部小写)。
英译关键词时,词与词之间的标点也由“;”改成“,”。
例: 关键词:归化法;异化法;教学方法;翻译过程

最后要提醒广大莘莘学子注意的一点是:内容严谨
内容严谨可以归结为书面语和口头语的问题。
应尽量减少What’s more这些口语化说法,可用Futhermore, 甚至根本不用这些,而是一环套一环把意思表述清楚。
另外一些用词或者词组,如Try to,其实也是比较口语化的。
我以前用这个词,老师都给改成seek to.最好不用etc. 这样的说法,因为显得好像比较马虎,不如说Include such … as…虽然意思差不多,但是后者给人印象是严谨一些。
论文摘要翻译中不用翻译的'词汇
汉语里有些名词,如“工作”、“问题”、“条件”、“状况”、“情况”等,有时有具体含义,有时没有具体含义,或具体含义不多。
如“我提个问题”中的“问题”一词,有具体含义,汉译英时必须译出,译成May
I ask a question;而“人民内部的矛盾问题”中的“问题”一词,则无具体含义,不必译出,只需译成contradictions among the people。
这种无具体含义的词,人们称之为“范畴词”(category words)。
我们在写英文摘要时,或者将论文的汉语摘要译成英文时,这类范畴词通常不需要写出或译出。

Contro1.(比较:“工作服”译成clothes)
“公关工作”等于“公关”(公共关系),故“工作”不必译出,只译成public relation即可。
例2 关于建筑产品质量问题的法律思考

Products.(比较:“关键的问题”译成a key problem)本例中“产品质量问题”即“产品质量”,故“问题”一词无需译出。
例3 论劳动力市场需求约束条件下的经济模式
The Economic Model Restrained by Market Demands of Labour Force.
“⋯ ⋯ 需求约束条件下的⋯⋯模式”等于“⋯ ⋯ 需求约束下的⋯ ⋯ 模式”,故“条件”一词 未译。
(比较:“自然条件”译成natural conditions)
总之,遇到“工作”、“问题”等词时,是否需要译出,关键是看这些词是否具有实际含义,或者说是否属于范畴词。
我们应该根据上下文仔细推敲,以使译文尽可能准确地表达原文
含义。此外,我们中国人写论文时,常常在论文的标题中加上“探讨”、“初探”、“试论”、“浅谈”、“研究”等词,以示作者行文谦逊以及在学术上留有余地,这类词语英、美作者过去也常使用,但目前使用的人已越来越少。
目前英语科技论文标题的趋势是简洁、醒目、突出主题。
因此,将这类词语译成英语时,尤其是在投往国外科技期刊的稿件中,除非强调,最好省略不译,以符合科技论文标题的发展趋势。
