The Little Red Hen
Once upon a time, there was a little red hen who lived on a farm. One day, she found some wheat grains on the ground. She had an idea to plant them and grow some wheat.
The little red hen asked the other animals on the farm if they would help her plant the wheat. "Who will help me plant the wheat?" she asked. But the cow, the sheep, and the pig all said no. They were too busy and didn't want to help.
So the little red hen planted the wheat all by herself. She watered the wheat every day and took care of it. After a few weeks, the wheat grew tall and strong.
When the wheat was ready to be harvested, the little red hen asked the other animals if they would help her. "Who will help me harvest the wheat?" she asked. But the cow, the sheep, and the pig all said no. They were too busy and didn't want to help.
So the little red hen harvested the wheat all by herself. She worked very hard and collected all the wheat.
Next, the little red hen asked the other animals if they would help her make bread with the wheat. "Who will help me make bread?" she asked. But the cow, the sheep, and the pig all said no. They were too busy and didn't want to help.
So the little red hen made the bread all by herself. She kneaded the dough, let it rise, and baked it in the oven. The smell of the freshly baked bread filled the air.
When the bread was ready to eat, the little red hen asked the other animals if they wanted to share it with her. "Who will help me eat the bread?" she asked. But the cow, the sheep, and the pig all said yes. They were very eager to eat the bread.
The little red hen looked at them and said, "No, you didn't help me plant the wheat, harvest the wheat, or make the bread. So you cannot have any."
And she enjoyed the bread all by herself.
Moral of the story: If you don't help, you don't get to enjoy the rewards.

The Ant and the Grasshopper
In a field, there lived an ant and a grasshopper. The ant was hardworking and spent all day collecting food for the winter. The grasshopper, on the other hand, loved to sing and dance all day long.
One sunny day, the grasshopper saw the ant carrying food to its nest. "Why are you working so hard?" the grasshopper asked. "Come, join me and enjoy the day."
The ant replied, "I am preparing for the winter. If I don't collect enough food now, I will have nothing to eat when it gets cold."
The grasshopper laughed and continued to dance and sing. "Winter is far away. There is plenty of time to gather food."
But as the days passed, the weather got colder, and food became scarce. The grasshopper realized its mistake and went to the ant for help.
"Please, can you spare some food?" the grasshopper begged.
The ant looked at the grasshopper and said, "Why should I help you? You spent all summer having fun while I worked hard to prepare for the winter."
The grasshopper felt ashamed and promised to work hard next summer. From that day on, the grasshopper learned the importance of hard work and never wasted time again.
Moral of the story: It is important to work hard and prepare for the future.
What is your recovery rate? How long does it take you to recover from actions and behaviors that upset you? Minutes? Hours? Days? Weeks? The longer it takes you to recover, the more influence that incident has on your actions, and the less able you are to perform to your personal best. In a nutshell, the longer it takes you to recover, the weaker you are and the poorer your performance.
You are well aware that you need to exercise to keep the body fit and, no doubt, accept that a reasonable measure of health is the speed in which your heart and respiratory system recovers after exercise. Likewise the faster you let go of an issue that upsets you, the faster you return to an equilibrium, the healthier you will be. The best example of this behavior is found with professional sportspeople. They know that the faster they can forget an incident or missd opportunity and get on with the game, the better their performance. In fact, most measure the time it takes them to overcome and forget an incident in a game and most reckon a recovery rate of 30 seconds is too long!
Imagine yourself to be an actor in a play on the stage. Your aim is to play your part to the best of your ability. You have been given a script and at the end of each sentence is a ful stop. Each time you get to the end of the sentence you start a new one and although the next sentence is related to the last it is not affected by it. Your job is to deliver each sentence to the best of your ability.
Don’t live your life in the past! Learn to live in the present, to overcome the past. Stop the past from influencing your daily life. Don’t allow thoughts of the past to reduce your personal best. Stop the past from interfering with your life. Learn to recover quickly.
Remember: Rome wasn’t built in a day. Reflect on your recovery rate each day. Every day before you go to bed, look at your progress. Don’t lie in bed saying to you, “I did that wrong.” “I should have done better there.” No. look at your day and note when you made an effort to place a full stop after an incident. This is a success. You are taking control of your life. Remember this is a step by step process. This is not a make-over. You are undertaking real change here. Your aim: reduce the time spent in recovery.
