玩具是幼儿学习的工具，使幼儿认识世界的教科书，也是幼儿生活中不可缺少的伴侣，无论是家庭还是幼儿园都积极为幼儿提供各式各样的玩具。以满足他们的好奇、好动、好模仿、爱游戏的心理需要。
有一次，我逛超市，来到玩具柜前，看到一个孩子正缠着父母给他买电动的玩具，边上围观了不少人,并有许多父母抱怨，花了几十元钱给孩子买的玩具，刚玩了几天就扔到一边去了，上班挣这点钱怎么买的起呢?是呀，玩具是买不完的，况且很多玩具价钱昂贵，买这些玩具对许多家庭来说，无疑是个经济负担，怎样才能使幼儿的玩具即经济又玩的久远呢?在这方面，我是这样做的：
首先，我把眼光投向大自然，利用大自然中的风、沙、石、水、雨等，培养幼儿的创造才能，使幼儿的智力在游戏中得到开发和发展。
风：你看不见，摸不着，但可以感觉到，微风是什么感觉?刮大风时会发生什么现象?春风与秋风、冬天的寒风都是什么感觉，带幼儿出来走走，仔细体味，观察，边走便让幼儿描述，并指导孩子制作简易的风车、风筝和飞机等，当看到孩子们举着自己制作的风车等玩具在风中尽情地跑，尽情地叫时，我便又结合社会《不同的风》这一课，让幼儿知道风的起因，风对人类生活的用处和危害等，让孩子在玩中长了知识，有培养了孩子对大自然的热爱。
沙：小小沙粒，在成人眼里不过是建筑用的材料而已，可孩子们却不这么想，我常常看到沙堆旁围满了孩子，有的挖洞，有的堆山，还有的爬到上面当碉堡，下面的孩子攻，玩《攻碉堡》的游戏，在日常生活中，我引导孩子在沙子里掺上土做馒头、烤饼，在沙子里插上冰糕棒，树叶等做公园里的树木、花草，用砖摆成滑梯……有一种巧夺天工的感觉，沙子使幼儿的创造才能得以发挥，而这一点正是许多昂贵的成品玩具所不及的。
水：对孩子们来说是亲密的伙伴，玩水是孩子的天性，水可以带给孩子无穷的乐趣，因此在日常生活中，我常常结合教学折一些船、小鸭等放在水中，让它们在“海上”航行，在“池塘”里嬉戏，并找些木块、泡沫、铁钉、纸片等放在水中，让幼儿玩，在玩中许多幼儿问我：“老师，木块、泡沫、铁钉、纸片为什么飘在水上，而铁钉却沉到水底去了”，这是，我就结合教幼儿认识《水》这一课，使孩子在玩中学，在学中玩。
雨：雨过天晴，孩子们象出笼的小鸟，呼啦啦一齐“飞”到院子里，寻食般的穿梭在被细雨打湿的各种花、草、树木中间，不时地大声宣布着，争论着他们的发现，这时我一边观赏，一边引导幼儿对各种景物进行雨前和雨后的比较性观察，并给幼儿讲一些雨、雪间的自然变化常识，这样，既丰富了幼儿的自然常识和生活常识，又促进了认识能力的发展。
另外，我还利用生活中的废旧物品指导孩子制作一些简单的玩教具，培养幼儿勤俭节约的良好品质。
如：各种饮料瓶、罐、盒、各种皮制与塑料制的管、袋、碎布、旧挂历、泡沫等，都是我与孩子们收集的物品，我引导幼儿利用这些日常生活中的废旧物品，制作出了一些用金钱难以买成的“土”玩具，如用泡沫做成各种动物的头型，用彩笔画上五官，挂在房子里或游戏时当头饰，用易拉罐做成小动物，娃娃家居(桌子、椅子)、花瓶、花盆、吊篮等，弃之不用的酒瓶盖用细绳把一些碎布条与瓶盖栓在一起制成“毽子”，用铁丝穿上瓶盖当手铃做手玲操用，还用来代替铁片，在磁铁黑板上固定挂图，既方便，又经济实用。
小小冰糕棒，一般人们弃至一边，我引导幼儿把冰棒洗净晾干后当计算棒，学习计算时作分解、组成用，做角色游戏时当娃娃家的筷子，还用来组字，拼图等。
为什么孩子特别偏爱自然界和生活中的这些废旧物品呢?原因在于，无论是沙土、石、水、还是废旧物品，他们的可塑性都很强，一只玩具“猫”只能是一只猫，它不可能变成别的，而一捧沙土，在孩子手里既可以变成高山，又可以变成别的，这些“玩具”本身，没有固定的形态，正因为它是不成型的，为了让它变成有形，就必须进行创造性的劳动，只有在创造中才能真正的乐趣。
幼儿在自制玩具过程中，由于两只小手不停地做着各种动作，折、拉、压、翻、剪、捏等，这些动作的多次重复出现，促进了幼儿手腕、手指小肌肉的发展，提高了手动作的灵活性、协调性、精确性，既锻炼了手和脑，又锻炼了身体，激发了幼儿的求知欲，并使幼儿亲身体会到我们日常生活中的所有物品都是来之不易的，从而养成爱护公物和勤俭节约的良好习惯。
这些“玩具”还有一个共同的优点，那就是它们都是大自然无偿赠送的，只要想玩，随时可以取。
千百年来，人类制作的玩具在不断更新、发展，也在不断被淘汰，而大自然中的“玩具”和利用废旧物品制作的“玩具”却一直为孩子们所喜爱，具有经久不衰的魅力，当您被商店里琳琅满目地玩具弄得眼花缭乱，又囊中羞涩时和不改变一下途径，放手让您的孩子自个儿制作玩具!柜台上的玩具虽精致，却不及自个儿做的玩的有兴趣，玩的出智慧，玩的久远呢。
