在现今社会中英语人才爆炸,英语学习简直是遍地开花,因此English majors找工作实在是难,在踏出校园之前务必要找准职业定位,下面我特制订了英语专业职业生涯规划范例,根据规划走好每一步。
一个切实可行的计划是成功的基础,美好的未来需要有个规划蓝图来指导。以下是我对自己将来职业的一个规划。
大学本科三年级开始着手准备考研的事情,考研的方面有两方面的选择:
第一方面是考英语专业或者跨专业考研。这一选择可以考中国传媒大学的新闻英语专业,从事新闻英语方面的工作;或者是考北京外国语大学、北京语言大学等语言类的学校,继续深造我的英语。至于跨专业考研,我咨询过我们的商务英语老师,她建议我考人力资源管理方面的研究生,譬如:广东外语外贸大学的人力资源管理专业,或者对外经贸大学等学校。
另一方面,考国外大学的研究生,准备在国外读研究生。这对于一个英语专业的学生来说是很现实的。在国外可以了解更多国内所不能缺乏的资源、信息等。对说英语国家可以有个更好的了解,从而更能胜任自己的工作。也可能在国外发展。初步定为国外留学的目标是欧洲或者澳大利亚。
我的职业目标是在外资企业中做一个英语翻译员。最终下定这个做英语翻译员的决心却是来之不易。
首先,英语对英语专业的学生来说有时是个限制因素。英语只能作为一种交流工具,现在大多数的人都可以说一口流利的英语就算对英语语法知识不是很了解。而且,这些非英语专业的学生,譬如,计算机专业的学生,他们本身的计算机专业知识就是他们的一个特长。可以说他们同时掌握了两门专业知识。这对我们来说是个很大的挑战。在择业时,面对的竞争也较大。
其次,英语专业面对的择业范围较为狭窄。一般,只能选择与英语专业有关的职业,而与英语专业相关的职业部外乎就是翻译、新闻英语之类等。总之,相对于许多专业来说,英语专业的择业翻译还是比较狭窄的。
再次,我个人认为英语大学本科毕业后就已经拿到了专业八级证书了已经达到了比较顶尖级的水平了,如果接着考研还是考英语专业的话,那么英语对于我来说不再是一种交流工具了,而转为研究对象,而我对自己研究英语这方面没有信心也没有兴趣。
第四,对于跨专业考研,在选择所跨专业方面时也困难重重。由于英语专业大学四年都不学习数学,所以跨专业考研时选择的专业范围也被缩小了,不能选择需要考数学的专业。如果硬要选择必需要考数学的专业就必须从现在开始补习数学。第五,出国读研究生在选择专业方面也遇到了同样的问题。在选择国家方面,国家的消费水平是不是太高等问题也影响了选择。
最终选择还是从事英语方面的工作主要是因为自己的专业是英语专业,而且将来考研的方向极大可能是以上的第二方面。基于英语专业且在国外读研究生这一因素,决定选择在外企从事有关翻译的工作。
这个职业目标的成功选择让我对职业目标的决策方法有了一定的认识。首先,在选择职业目标是首要考虑的问题是个人自身问题。要对自我优缺点等进行一个全面透彻的分析。自己专业的优缺点,专业面对的择业范围等方面都要有个全面而深刻的了解。其次,要考虑到职业本身的问题。自己的职业范围是不是跟专业对口,或者合适自己。即我们通常所说的人职匹配。不要对自己将要选择的职业期望过高,往往会导致职业决策的失误。
在对自我进行分析方面,主要考虑的是自我性格(temperament),以性格确定自己是怎样的一类人群,从而确定比较适合自己的职业群。在上课过程中的各种性格等测试都证明我是个外向的人,比较适合的工作是交流、沟通等方面的工作,于是确定了从事翻译工作。其次考虑的是我的技能(myskills)。我目前拥有的技能、特长,我的工作需要我拥有而我不具备的技能。通过这一分析给自己定一个目标,把自己不具备的技能列举出来并且把提高方法一一列举出来,在日后的训练过程中着重提高这些方面的技能,从而能更好的胜任这个职业目标。再次,个人价值观问题(value)对自己价值观进行一个全面透彻的分析。并把自己典型的一天所作的事情一一详细的写下来。
在择业过程中家庭的影响也是个重要因素。儿女总之父母的希望所在,所以在择业时也会考虑到父母的期望,我爸爸就希望我做个大学教授,他说这份工作比较稳定,比较适合女生。在择业初期,也确实想到要做大学教授,然而随着自己对自己的了解越来越来深刻,最终还是决定第一择业目标是个英文翻译员,而大学教授放到了第二择业选择。我的第三个职业目标是外企的人力资源部门经理。英语专业面临的职业群只能是与英语专业有关的职业,因此自己在择业时选择的都是外企,根本上还是与英语专业相关联。对于第一个职业目标,自己还是比较满意的,它跟自己的专业适合,而且跟个人的性格比较适合,还可以在工作过程中提高个人的技能(myskills)和专业知识。
职业目标初步定了下来,接下来的就是如何实现这个目标的具体实践了。
作为一个外企的英语翻译员必须具备以下素质:

ⅱ。提升技能(skillsforpromotion):各种证书(certifications),虽然有时候证书只是一中形式,但却起着极大的作用。各种等级证书是必须的,尤其是翻译证书,当然还有专业八级等证书;责任心(responsibilities),对于每个行业来说都是必须的。一个优秀的翻译员尤其要热爱翻译行业,责任心强,性格稳重细致。合作项目的洽谈、翻译及英文撰写等工作;交流沟通能力(communication),翻译员被誉为“沟通的桥梁”,所以积极和人进行沟通,并参与相关活动等都是必须的。良好的人际沟通与组织协调能力;具有较强的公共能力;团队合作精神(teamwork),人际交往能力强,和自己团队搞好关系;母语(motherlanguage)中文书写能力强,翻译员最终还是为了帮助中英双方的沟通,所以较好的中文是必须的;礼节,礼貌(manners),举止要得体,毕竟英文翻译员有时代表的不止是自己有时还代表着一定的团体甚至是一个国家的形象;谦虚 (’sperspectives),谦虚并能容纳别人观点;态度(attitude),做事认真负责,为人正直;逻辑(logic),条理清晰,明白易懂、一目了然,所以要善于交流;创新意识(innovation);
